Welcome to Trusted Tech Help!

Welcome to Trusted Tech Help! I am so glad you are here! For this very first post, I’d like you to meet my dad. My dad is one of the reasons this company was born.

My Dad was a lover of technology. He worked as a technical writer for his entire career. But mostly, he loved tinkering with computers – figuring out how they worked, writing small programs for his children (a beloved “learn to type” game comes to mind), and figuring out the latest gadgets. He would have gotten a big kick out of the AI craze, right now. And I know he’d be proud that I’m working in AI and Cybersecurity.

Between my parents, my dad was always the one who took care of all the “technology stuff.” He paid the online bills, handled all the data backups, and, yes, decided when something was a scam and promptly deleted or ignored it. But when he died in 2023, my mom quickly realized that she didn’t know how to do any of these things. It wasn’t that she couldn’t – just that she’d never had to. And so, my brother and I took it upon ourselves to teach her.

We taught her tricks for using her computer and her iPhone, how to use the printer and change the ink, and most importantly, how to recognize a scam. Whenever I got a scam text message, I’d take a screenshot and send it to her. “Tell me 3 ways you know this is a scam”, I’d say. And she learned. I think, if you asked her, my mom would say that she feels a lot more empowered now. She feels more in control. And I think she feels pretty proud of herself. I know my dad is.

So, if this is where you find yourself- first, know that you are in good company. And second, know that you are in the right place. Have a look around – find a mini-course that might be helpful, join a chat community, book some at-home help, and submit suggestions for new topics to cover. This is a friendly place for learning and growth. Welcome!
